This past Saturday, elected officials, community leaders, family members, Latina Coalition founders and membership came together to commemorate the dedication, hard work, and passion of 11 incredible women. Congratulations to our Engaged Latina Leadership Activist (ELLA) program graduates!
What set this years graduation apart from the rest?
– Our first-ever corporate sponsor for graduation – Google! A huge thanks to Google for recognizing the ELLA Program and helping us to fund our graduation!
– Ticket sales to graduation – resulting in fundraising for the 2018 class.
– Thanks to a generous donation from the Coca Cola Foundation, we had ELLA branded t-shirts for sale with 100% of the profits going towards ELLA!
– This was also the first year that an ELLA graduate chaired the program! Thanks to Cristina for her leadership and volunteering her time as Chair to make the above and much more possible!
And, of course, a big thank you goes out to Latina Coalition board, ELLA Committee and our partners & Supporters – Office of Women’s Policy, HOPE, SCC Commission on the Status of Women, Lorena Hernandez of Comcast, PG&E, Castellano Family Foundation, Julissa Arce for donating signed copies of her book (My Underground American Dream), Coca-Cola Foundation for donating the t-shirts as well as tickets to Six Flags for the ELLA graduates – and each and every speaker, donor, judge and supporter of the ELLA Program!
If you’re interested in getting involved with ELLA – either on the committee, as a future ELLA, or by partnering with us, please contact Cristina@latinacoalition.org and check out the event photos!
During their 6-month participation in the ELLA Program, we challenged ELLAs to get in groups and create video project PSAs – each focusing on a different issue affecting Latinas in SIlicon Valley. We provided them with a video trainer, expert speakers on the subject, as well as coaching & mentoring and let them manage the rest! The winning video was judged by a panel of community members & experts and announced at graduation. Each group member received a $200 (each) scholarship from Latina Coalition.
Winning video – Economic Advancement of Latinas in Silicon Valley
Our Runner Up – Women & Girls Justice for Latinas in Silicon Valley
