ELLA Video on Latinas in STEM Nominated for CreaTV Award
As part of the ELLA video for social change project, Jocelyn Barragan, Yvette De La Torre, Ashley Ortiz, and Stefanie Perez created a video on the lack of Latinas in STEM fields. Congratulations to them for being nominated for a CreaTV award! These ELLAs along with LCSV Board members attended the awards ceremony in January at the historic California Theatre. Check out the Underrepresentation of Latinas in STEM video on YouTube.
Latina Coalition named SVL's Partner of the Year
Jaqui Guzman, LCSV President, was honored to accept Silicon Valley Latino's award for Community Partner of the Year on behalf of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley at SVL's Year in Review event in December 2013.
Women's Equality Day
On August 26, 2012, San Jose joined communities across America to celebrate the anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, a turning point in our country's progress toward equality for all Americans, and we honor the courage of women who worked for voting rights throughout our nation's history and in the present day.
LCSV was recognized by San Jose Council Members and the Mayor for its work and contribution in the community.
Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley (LCSV) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that has been providing Latinas with civic engagement and leadership development in Silicon Valley for more than 14 years. LCSV was recognized by San Jose Council Members and the Mayor for its work and contribution in the community.
LCSV addresses leadership development through a female and Latino/a cultural lens. LCSV identifies and heightens awareness about issues that disproportionately affect the Latino/a community through educational forums, lectures, workshops and events. LCSV is committed to mobilize, empower and unleash leadership among young adults through the ELLA program. LCSV fosters sisterhood through a friendly environment. Mixers give members access to professional Latinas from diverse work sectors.
LCSV provides programming every year for the The Engaged Latina Leadership Activist (ELLA) program. The ELLA program is designed to increase the leadership abilities of local Latinas and provide them with opportunities to learn about themselves and issues impacting Latinas locally and state-wide.
Upon graduating, each of the ELLAs had to work on a video project that discussed these issues impacting Latinas.
