Erika is a Field Representative for the State of California, Assembly Member Ash Kalra, where she works with the community and residents of Assembly District 27 as a liaison for state department agencies, assist constituents with inquiries and legislative questions. Prior to joining State Assembly Member Kalra, she was a Program Coordinator for Third Street Community Center and a Policy Aide for San José City Council District 2.
Erika was born and raised in San José and grew up in a bicultural environment, embracing all the riches of the diverse cultures of San José. Growing up she watched her mother selflessly give back to the community by advocating for families in the Santa Clara County, which inspired her to pursue a career to help her community. Since the age of 13, Erika has been volunteering in food drives, campaigns, after schol academic support programs, and mentoring students. While studying for her undergraduate degree, she worked for California Rural Legal Services, a legal non-profit that offered legal services to underrepresented individuals and communities. Erika received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a concentration in Social Interaction and minored in Mexican-American Studies from San José State University. She is passionate about empowering and helping others to have a vioce in this society. Erika gives back to her community through activism and volunteering, enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and cooking for her guest.
