Melissa Renteria is a Public Information Representative II for the Santa Clara Valley Water District. In her position, Melissa focuses on water education, outreach, and community relations activities regarding the county’s water issues. She is an alumnae of the 2016 Engaged Latina Leadership Activist (ELLA) Program and has been involved since then. Additionally, she is a former graduate of Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute’s (APALI) 2017 Civic Leadership Program and was featured in APALI’s 120 under 40 for her work in the nonprofit sector.
As a third-generation Mexican-American, being a member of Latina Coalition Silicon Valley helped Melissa acknowledge her roots and the constant struggles of what it means to be a Latina or woman of color in this country. She is determined to help women, especially Latinas, have a seat at the table.
Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Public Health from the University of California, Merced. Currently, she is in the process of completing a Graduate Certificate Program in Public Health with the University of Missouri. She is profoundly passionate about her work in public health, public policy, and civic engagement.
She is a Imperial Valley native and has been a Bay Area resident since 2015. Melissa enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, and watching movies.
