Latina Coalition celebrates 16 years at annual Sisterhood Brunch Fundraiser
With great pride and an outpouring of community support, on Sunday, June 14, 2015, Latina Coalition celebrated 16 years in the community at the annual Sisterhood Brunch Fundraiser at the St. Claire Hotel in Downtown San Jose. This year’s brunch brought in over 100 guests including founding Latina trailblazers Blanca and Teresa Alvarado, former board members, and an inspiring keynote led by Helen Torres, Executive Director of Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (H.O.P.E.)
Latina Coalition stands upon the many women who come together as a sisterhood to support one another, encourage one another, and work together to become a strong community of Latina Leaders. For the past three years, Latina Coalition has recognized some of these women who have continued to carry on the legacy and go above and beyond the call of sisterhood. We were honored to present this year’s recipient of the Sisterhood Award to dedicated Latina Coalition member and former board member, Patricia D. Castorena, Principal at Law Offices of Patricia D. Castorena
Patricia is a successful immigrant rights advocate and strong supporter of civic engagement and community empowerment. She is a board member of SIREN (Services for Immigrant Rights and Education Network) and Past President of the La Raza Lawyer’s Association. “Patricia is the epitome of what Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley stands for, she is active in her community through her consistent mentoring and continually giving back by supporting community organizations through her volunteerism and board efforts. It is most fitting that she is the recipient of our Sisterhood Award.” Christina Ramos, President of Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley.
“It is a great privilege to be the recipient of LCSV’s 2015 Sisterhood Award and I am thrilled and humbled by this honor. Without a doubt, I owe all that I am to my amazing mother, whose strength, resilience, and perseverance has taught me the greatest lessons in life: humility, love and compassion. Gracias Mami! I have a deep respect and admiration for LCSV and the importance we place on the development of relationships amongst our diverse and amazing Latina sisterhood, all in order to better ourselves, our future leaders, and our community. I look forward to continuing this mission and the mentorship of our young Latinas! Gracias Hermanas!” – Patricia D. Castorena, Former Board Member
Latina Coalition would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of our board members, past and present, all of our members and community supporters who continue to stand beside us in Sisterhood and advocacy dedicated to Latina Leadership.
This event was made possible through the support of Comcast, KQED, YWCA and The Castellano Family Foundation.
